School Transportation

As the school authority, the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR) is responsible for covering transportation costs for students attending LVR special education schools. The legal basis for this is the North Rhine-Westphalia Student Transportation Costs Ordinance. According to this ordinance, the LVR, as the school authority, determines the type and extent of student transportation costs.

As a general rule, publictransportation should always be the preferred option, provided that the student can travel to and from school by bus or train. This helps foster students’ independence and prepares them for everyday life later on. The LVR covers the cost of the appropriate ticket (Deutschlandticket, Schülerticket, Schokoticket, or similar).

For students who are unable to travel to the LVR special education school on their own, the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR) has established a special student transportation service. This service organizes group transfers in which children are picked up from their homes by car or minibus and taken to school. The trips are carried out by contracted transportation companies. However, the special student transportation service is a voluntary service designed to enable students with disabilities to participate in daily school life and to provide corresponding support to their parents. - There is no obligation to provide transportation.
